I am a 70-year old, semi-retired Diagnostic Radiologist/M.D. I have been a Radiologist for over 40 years. I am married with 2 adult children and 5 grandkids. I enjoy travel, investing & philately.

I had always had a higher than normal PSA level that suddenly elevated. My family practice doctor referred me to a Urologist, (Larry Bans, MD) who under examination, felt a small nodule. My prostate biopsy came back positive for cancer.

As a physician I had a fair amount of knowledge of the treatment options. I did some additional reading on the subject. Given that I had long standing bladder and voiding problems with self-catheterization Dr Bans, MD recommended external beam radiation therapy (XBRT) as my safest option.

I contacted Lauren Stegman, MD, PhD with Phoenix.

Cyberknife and Radiation Oncology Center, strong recommendations from his dad and Dr. Bans, two people that I have much respect for and Dr. Bans said Lauren and his associates were great and did the Truebeam STx, (the most advanced technology in Phoenix for XBRT).

Dr. Stegman carefully explained the equipment and how highly focused the beam was on your modern equipment, resulting in less side effects and long term complications. This in combination with hormone therapy would have a great chance for successful results.

Dr.Stegman is an extremely nice individual that immediately puts one at ease. He was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the disease process and treatments and carefully explained all options for Truebeam STx for my somewhat complicated problem.

I found Phoenix Cyberknife and Radiation Oncology office and staff to be the most knowledgeable, friendly and efficient, the center is great in all aspects!

My treatment protocol involved 45 treatments, each visit took about 45 total minutes with about 10-15 minutes actually devoted to the Truebeam STx treatment. Once a week I would meet with the physician or PA for an additional 15 minutes to check on how I was doing and to answer my many questions. This plan was great.

Things are going great today.!
